Editing Terminology/Definitions
Editing - Editing is when you change or correct a incomplete or false product, document or footage. In other words, you modify it.
180 degree rule - A rule stating that a camera should be placed somewhere inside 180 degrees on a particular side of the invisible line of a shot containing two people filmed in sequence. If the camera crosses the line, confusion results for the film viewers, because it makes it look like the people are switching places as one watches the film. -

Example of the '180 degree rule':
This is the scene from 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' when Harry and Hermione are conversing with Albus Dumbledore and then when Ron starts talking, the 180 degree rule is used as they all turn around into Ron's direction.
Montage editing - When you place different clips of footage together to create an instant understanding of the topic which is being portrayed in the motion feature for the audience.
Transition editing - When shots are edited to create movement from one shot to the other.
Jump Cut - An abrupt transition from one scene to another.
Dolly Shot - A shot which is filmed by a camera which is moving steadily on a track otherwise known as a 'dolly'.
Example of a 'Dolly Shot':
In
the final scene of 'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2' , a
dolly shot is established when the actors are walking along the platform
of King's Cross Station to barrier to Platform 9 3/4.
